Custom Abutments
The abutment decides whether the final crown looks like it grew there or was screwed in. We design them from your scans, matched to the emergence profile your temporary built.
What we offer & who it is for
For practices and laboratories outsourcing custom abutment design and production on all major platforms, with documented component choices.

Options
| Titanium abutments | Full custom titanium, cement-retained finals. |
|---|---|
| Ti-base hybrids | Titanium-base zirconia abutments and crowns - machined interface, zirconia superstructure. |
| Angle correction | Screw-channel solutions for tilted implants. |
| Multi-unit | MUA profiles for full-arch work. |
Specifications & industry guidance
| Parameter | Industry reference | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Materials | Titanium (grade 5) · zirconia on Ti-base · full zirconia where indicated | Choice depends on platform, aesthetics and space |
| Torque protocol | Per implant system specification (typically 20-35 Ncm) | Chairside, with the system's instruments |
| Margin design | Supragingival to 1.5 mm subgingival, laser-welded or milled interface | Position confirmed in the design preview |
| Supported systems | All major platforms via verified libraries | Catalogue number requested for unusual systems |
| Delivery options | Abutment only · abutment + crown fitted as one assembly | Screw channel position confirmed before milling |
Practical guidance for your prescriptions
- Margin depth beyond ~1.5 mm subgingival makes cement removal unreliable - consider screw-retention.
- Send the scan body used (brand and type) - third-party copies are a common source of misfit.
- Zirconia-on-Ti-base hybrids combine gingival aesthetics with a metal interface: the standard aesthetic-zone choice.
- Request the design preview if margin position is critical - it is confirmed before milling, not after.
Reference figures are widely accepted industry values for the material/system class - case-specific parameters are confirmed at design. Reviewed by the Istar case coordination team.
Indications & limits
Component availability is verified before acceptance: discontinued or unusual interfaces pause the case until confirmed.
Emergence profile transfer depends on receiving the temporary in situ scan (or its design file).
What to submit with your case
- Implant system and platform
- Scan body brand, model and generation, included in the upload
- Temporary in-situ scan or design file (for profile transfer)
- Retention and cementation plan
- Component preference: original or compatible
How the case is made & checked
Each abutment ships with the component specification - brand, platform, alloy, lot number - and seating verification on the correct analogue.
Production time & shipping
Runs on the standard workflow once intake verification completes; verification pauses the clock only when a component question is open. Shipping is separate.
Real cases
Ti-base zirconia crown with profile transfer
Emergence profile carried from the approved provisional's in-situ scan into the Ti-base design; accepted at first seating.

Pricing & fees
Priced per the B2B price list by component type; original parts quoted as such. Freight and duties separate.
If something goes wrong
Laboratory-side remakes are covered free of charge - see the full remake & warranty policy. Every remake starts with a root-cause analysis you are part of.
